Dear Parishioners,
Sunday, June 14, we celebrated The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, Corpus Christi with a Corpus Christi Procession, a tradition that dates back over 700 years. Corpus Christi is a preeminent celebration of the real Presence of Our Lord--Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity--in the Holy Eucharist.
The three-mile-long procession began directly after Mass at St. Anthony the Hermit and finished with adoration at St. Mary Mother of God. We walked our Lord down Appleton Avenue and Main Street, showing witness to the Truth of Christ in the world. Along the route prayers and songs could be heard from adorers.
Parishioners were invited to adore our Lord from their cars, park in various vacant parking lots along our route or drive past honking and adoring Jesus in a new and unexpected way. Those that parked and knelt beside their vehicles were asked to maintain an appropriate social distance between themselves and others.
Peace,
Msgr. Ross A. Shecterle and Fr. Andrew Linn
